“Over the past several months, House Republicans have fought for reform and change in the way we do business here in Illinois. Like families, we believe state government must live within its means and tighten its belt – and that should start with legislators,” said Cross.
According to Cross, lawmakers earlier passed legislation blocking legislative pay raises and requiring them to take 4 furlough days. During budget negotiations this week, Rep. Cross fought to have that number increased to twelve days.
“It’s not good enough to say to others that they must take furlough days – as lawmakers we need to lead by setting the example,” said Cross.
