Rep. Cross Congratulates Illinois State Scholars for 2010
Illinois Student Assistance Commission names 375 in 84th district
In an economy where there is far more competition for financial assistance and scholarships, Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego) is proud to congratulate 375 of his constituents for receiving the Illinois State Scholar award for 2010.
“These high school students rank in the top 10 percent of their classes in the state,” said Cross. “They can now use this honor to potentially gain a leg up on other applicants to colleges or when applying for scholarships or financial aid.”
These award recipients come from all corners of the 84th district including: Aurora, Shorewood, Plainfield, Bolingbrook, Joliet, Naperville, Romeoville, Montgomery and Oswego.
Along with Rep. Cross, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) is sending a congratulatory letter to every new State Scholar. ISAC selects the winners based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores and/or class rank at the end of the students’ junior year.
At least a half of a million Illinois State Scholars have been recognized in the past 50 years, including 19,345 this year.
“Excellent high school grades are tremendously important for laying the groundwork for future college success. Illinois State Scholars are the best and the brightest in our state’s high schools and we salute them, their families and their teachers on this achievement,” said ISAC Executive Director Andrew Davis.
