(Oswego) Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego) and Rep. Kay Hatcher (R-Yorkville) are partnering with the Oswego Community Bank, the Oswego Police Department and the Oswego Senior Center to host “Fraud Prevention for Seniors” on Tuesday, Sept. 28th.This free workshop will be held at the Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington, from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, Sept. 28th.
It will focus on several areas where fraud can exist including health insurance, telemarketing, mail, credit cards, and the internet. The presenters will also provide information on investment schemes, reverse mortgage scams, counterfeit prescription drugs. Local officials will also provide a local fraud update.
“Some of these scam artists target seniors with their fraudulent schemes and activities. We want to provide seniors with the tools they need to fend off these criminals,” said Cross.
“Identity theft is on the rise; it’s now the number one consumer complaint in Illinois. And with the rain and weather challenges we’ve faced this summer, home repair and insurance scams are also a particular concern. I hope all area seniors will come to the seminar to learn what to look out for and how to protect themselves,” Hatcher said.
Free parking for the event will be available at the Senior Center and the Knights of Columbus Hall. Light refreshments will also be served.
If local residents are interested in attending this free workshop, they should RSVP to the Oswego Community Bank by calling (630) 554-3411.
