New noise barriers to help hamper sound along I-55 in Cross’ district
October 26, 2009
Construction should be begin soon with completion scheduled for Oct. 2010
After listening to residents concerns about traffic noise in the 84th district, Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego) announced today that noise barriers will be constructed to help hamper the traffic noise in certain neighborhoods along I-55.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said that after conducting a required traffic noise analysis, it determined that there were two stretches along I-55 that would qualify for noise barrier construction at this time:
- Along I-55 from Black Road to U.S. Route 30 in Joliet and Plainfield
- Along I-55 from U.S. Route 30 to Weber Road in Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Romeoville and Joliet
“Many residents in the district have been concerned about the traffic noise in those areas and our staffed worked with IDOT to make these noise barriers a reality to cut down some of loud noise that has rattled in residents’ homes,” Cross said.
