Reps. Senger, Cross to hold Children’s Safety Expo on August 28

Naperville– State Representatives Darlene Senger, (R-Naperville) and Tom Cross, (R-Oswego) are pleased to announce they will be hosting a Children’s Safety Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday August 28th at Westfield Fox Valley Mall, 195 Fox Valley Center in Aurora. 

“With the start of the new school year it is important that children are reminded how to be safe while traveling to and from school and during afterschool activities,” said Rep. Senger. “It’s also a good opportunity for parents to have experts check to see if a child’s backpack is too heavy and dangerous for them and child ID kits will be available.” 

“We are thrilled that the community is really embracing this event with more than 40 groups participating in this year’s Children’s Safety Expo,” said Cross.  “The best part about it—is that you get in for free!” 

Children will also have an opportunity to touch 19 different kinds of trucks in the Parking lot of New York Street including a DARE police car, a fire truck, snow plow, S.W.A.T. vehicle, and tractor.  Children will also get to meet policemen, firemen, and Illinois National Guards Men. A rollover simulator will also have demonstrations at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. 

“As a parent of two children, I understand how important it is to get children active,” said Rep. Senger. “Numerous groups will be available to help parents and kids pick the right afterschool activities.”
