Bill would halt pension double dipping by Chicago labor leaders
State House GOP leader calls abuses uncovered by Tribune/WGN-TV a disgrace
by Jason Grotto, Tribune Reporterss tha
Less than n 24 hours after the Tribune and WGN-TV reported that at least eight union officials eligible for a city pension also stand to receive one or more union pensions for the same period of work, Illinois House Republican leader Tom Cross filed legislation that would limit them to just the one.
“This is double dipping on steroids — and it was meant to be illegal. Unfortunately, top union officials used a questionable interpretation of the pension law that allowed them to use a loophole to grab two or sometimes three pensions,” said Cross, R-Oswego. “This is a disgrace — and must be remedied immediately.”

150 Years Later, new law will create Commission to mark significance of America’s defining war
Governor Pat Quinn (D-Illinois) signed Rep. Tom Cross’ (R-Oswego) bill today that will establish a commission to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Civil War. The historic legislation, House Bill 237, is a tribute to the men and women from Illinois who fought and sacrificed for the cause of freedom and national unity.
“This new commission will aim to commemorate four of the most crucial years in our history,” said Cross. “The Civil War certainly was a pivotal point in our nation’s history and it should be remembered and celebrated in an appropriate way.”
